Halloween!!!!!!

 

We took most of the day off of school today.  Anthony went to Northern Elementary with Jeannie to help with a workshop she was doing.  Jacob, Michael and I went to Lexington to get prescriptions and pick up a few more costume parts.  We came home and carved pumpkins.  I cooked a "creepy" dinner.  I made heart meatloaf, cauliflower brain with green slime sauce, and bloody teeth.  We had skipped our creepy dinners for a while but Jacob expressed an interest in having one again.  I kind of missed it too so I happily agreed to make one again!!  It meant we had to skip a party with our friends but we met up with them to Trick or Treat.  We took Brutus aka Diesel with us, he got really freaked out by a huge plastic rat.  It was kind of funny :)  It was rainy and cold but we got quite a bit of candy :)  We came home and watched Halloween and It the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.  This is my favorite time of the year.  Only two months till Christmas!!!!

We spent the afternoon in Frankfort....

We got up this morning and worked on our school work.  At lunch time we headed towards Salato in Frankfort.  They had the place all decked out for Halloween.  It was a tiny bit chilly but I totally love this weather!!  After Salato we decided we were hungry so I did a search on the GPS for places to eat.  Well Rick's White Light Cafe' came up in the search.  We had seen this place on Food Tv's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  We decided we wanted to try it. We couldn't park very close to the cafe so we drove down a little and found a parking garage.  We had to walk across the "singing" bridge to get there.  I found the old brick I was looking for too take pictures.  To bad the boys weren't really dressed for it.  Oh well, I took some anyway :)  I really am not a fan of seafood but I had to try the crawfish pie...he made that on the show and I remembered thinking that looked so good.  It was very good!!!  It was a little on the pricey side but the entertainment was worth it.  Rick really is a character!!!!!  He didn't stop talking the whole time we were there!!  After lunch we headed to the Frankfort Goodwill to look for Halloween costume ideas.  We didn't find anything :(  Even so it was a wonderful day!!!!!  Anthony needs to learn to come with us every once in a while!!

We met the Simpsons and the Sanchez's at Big Bone Lick for the Salt Festival.  We had a great time!!!  Anthony even joined us because Riley was going to be there.  They sat at the cars and played guitar for a while.  The rest of us walked around and saw things.  There was a guy there playing some really cool Dulcimers.  He had three, each from a different time period.

A fall hike.....

Yesterday I decided that it was way to nice to spend the day inside!!!  I had to make a run to Winchester anyway so I thought why not just go on to Red River Gorge afterwards :)  The Gorge is one of my favorite places here in Kentucky.  Anthony decided he didn't want to go so Jacob and Michael and I went and we took Diesel with us.  We stopped and got Subway and had a little picnic by a cabin.  Then we walked down the Sky Bridge Trail.  We got to the bidge and walked over it and part of the way down but headed back before we saw if from underneath....mommy had to go potty!!  We also stopped at Whistling Arch...its one of our favorites places.  The boys spent some time climbing on the rocks.  So we are calling this a PE day!

Wolves!!!!!!

 

We went to visit the wolves and other animals at Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge.  http://wolfrun.org/

 We kind of drug Anthony with us.  He is at that age where you don't really want to hang out very much with your family.  But he loves dogs and I think he enjoyed himself.  The high light of the day for me was getting to hold one of the baby wolf mix pups!!  We weren't really suppose to get to hold them but they took them out of their pen so they could spray it out and we just happened to be there to "help" watch the puppies :)  They have lots of wolf mixes and they also have regular dogs that are available for adoption.  They also have deer, horses, pot belly pigs and a Jacob Sheep.  They also had a male turkey...he was funny, he ran the fence line with Michael.!!! 

 

The weather was perfect and we had a lovely day!!!
