Rocky Mountain National Park....day 3

Yesterday was mostly driving through Kansas.  We did stop in a very small town called Wilson and ate at a place called "Made From Scratch."  The Dutch Apple pie was soooo good!  We ended yesterday in Longmont Colorado.

We got up this morning and drove about 30 minutes to Rocky Mountain National Park.  It was beautiful.  We hiked around Bear Lake.  One of the views from the lake is on the Colorado quarter!  The boys climbed some rocks, that is their favorite activity.  We did stop at a visitor center and picked up Junior Ranger books.  Jacob really wanted to do it even though they are really to old.  We did forget to bring their vests though and are bummed about that.

At one stop the Michael and Jacob went on a small hike together.  Apparently Jacob decided to run part of the way.  We were REALLY high up on top of one of the mountains.  When we got to the second visitor center to turn in the books and get the badges Jacob turned really pale and his lips got a blue tinge.  The ranger that was talking to them stayed with us a long time to keep an eye on him.  We were like 12,184 feet above sea level.

We saw lot of little chipmunks.  One tried to climb on my leg!  Some really cool birds, one had a frill on his head.  My pictures of that one didn't turn out so well :(  The ranger told us where to stop to see Pica's.  They were very fast and kind of far away and I didn't get any pictures of them.  But while we were sitting there David spotted a marmot on the other side of the road!  It was far away but I managed to get a few pictures of it.

Really tired....there is a two hour time difference now and it will be 3 hours buy the time we get to Oregon.
